Surfing Ministry
Reaching the youth of Nicaragua for Christ is our passion. Through the sport of surfing we are connecting with the youth, building relationships, and bringing them to Christ. We are reaching out not just to the youth, but to their families, friends and the community. We are grassroots, living side by side with those we minister to and spending quality time with each family where they live. Through the sport of surfing, we are sharing the love of Jesus and drawing them close to Him through evangelism, discipleship, Bible Studies, fellowship and prayer.
Spiritual leaders are rising in our midst, leading others in their influence to Christ. (photo at the right)
Samuel and his family live in La Boquita, a fishing village nestled on the Pacific coast. He is a fisherman and enjoys surfing in his free time. We met Samuel over a decade ago when we hosted a surfing event in his village. Samuel came to know Christ through the efforts of many people sowing and watering over time. (photo at the left)
Today he is serving Christ and has become a spiritual leader in his family and community. (photo at the right)
Denis and Silvia are also La Boquitans. Denis surrendered his heart to Jesus after a surfing accident left him blind in one eye. He had heard the message of God’s great love, and in desperation, he called out to God for help. Miraculously, Denis’ sight was restored!. Denis and Silvia started attending our Bible Study each week. God was working deeply in their hearts until one day Silvia also received Jesus as her Lord and Saviour. God is redeeming families and they are finding purpose in Him! (photo at the left)
Mark met Josè out in the lineup one day and shared with him about the richness of God’s love. God was working in Josè’s heart. In time, he received Christ over a cup of coffee and conversation. Josè, a businessman and community leader, is reflecting Christ in his sphere of influence. (photo at the right)
Vision:
Many youth in Nicaragua are living in hopelessness due to poverty, addiction and lack of education and opportunity. Through the sport of surfing, we desire to bring each young person that we meet to Christ. As they begin to learn their spiritual value, God transforms their lives and gives them purpose. They begin to reflect Christ to their families, friends and neighbors. Truly hope and redemption in Christ are restoring many lives and giving spiritual value far greater than anything the world has to offer.
Needs:
Surf boards are needed! Due to a lifestyle of poverty, the average youth can not afford to buy a surfboard. The cost to buy a surfboard in Nicaragua is approximately $550. For information about donating a surfboard, contact Mark: nicaorphanage@gmail.com.
