Elijah’s Pantry
Elijah’s Pantry has been making an impact on many lives since 1994. Over 500 families have been served not just with grocery assistance but with much love, care and prayer. Individual needs are met by generous donors and are facilitated by a team of compassionate individuals. Whether due to a disability, loss of a parent, or a crisis, Elijah’s Pantry team members are there to help meet the physical needs and to offer the Bread of Life, Jesus Christ.
Jerry was left partially paralyzed after a motorcycle accident in 2012 and has since been unable to provide for his wife, Marleny, and their three children – Naomi, Gretchen
and Jenson. Elijah’s Pantry ministry has walked alongside the family not just with grocery assistance, but with medical care, and spiritual and emotional encouragement.
Whether it’s celebrating a promotion, a birthday or another occasion, much love and care through Elijah’s Pantry has been shown all along the way.
We gathered around Silvio and prayed and then rejoiced when he received Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Just a few weeks later, he entered heaven’s gates. He left behind his wife, Reina, and children, Agnor and Natalia. One day when we arrived to visit Reina and her children, they were just returning home from working in the fields. Elijah’s Pantry ministry has been present with the family by providing grocery assistance. We also built the family a bano (outhouse) since they previously did not have one. Much
love and care continues to be shown to this precious family through Elijah’s Pantry ministry.
Benjamin and Karla attend our sign language classes at Masatepe. Both are physically and mentally handicapped. Their home was a hodgepodge of metal and tin pieces with a dirt floor. Elijah’s Pantry ministry joined with another ministry and together built them a beautiful home! Benjamin, Karla and their mother, Ampara, receive grocery assistance regularly from Elijah’s Pantry. When Karla turned 15, we celebrated together with a quinceañera, a very special celebration for one’s fifteenth birthday. (photo of the old house)
Needs that exist:
• An estimated 60% of the population in Nicaragua lives in poverty and earns an average wage of about $10 per day.
• Hunger affects most of the population and contributes to poor diet and health.
• Lack of educational opportunity for many people lead to high illiteracy rates *and render many unemployed and promote a sense of hopelessness.
Vision:
We desire to not only continue to serve those in our care but to expand Elijah’s Pantry Grocery assistance and the love, care and prayer that accompanies it to include more
families as God directs our path. Every single day needs arise among the poor. God hears their cries for help. He sends us and we go!
